Event {Art Fairs}

.

What draws an average of 375,000 people out of their air conditioned homes and into the surrounding Minneapolis streets during the dog days of Summer?

The perfect trifecta of art fairs, of course.  The Uptown Art Fair, the Loring Park Art Festival and the Powderhorn Art Fair all take place August 5th-7th, 2011 (days and hours vary per venue).

In the past there were some parking issues but they have made it easier than ever to attend the event.  Now you can get a Metro Transit Art Pass which will get you free bus and light rail rides to and between the Uptown Art FairPowderhorn Art Fair and Loring Park Art Festival  so there is no excuse not to venture to all three.

They are also offering complimentary valet bike parking at the Uptown Art Fair.

The Uptown Art Fair event draws the second largest crowd in Minnesota, only second to the State Fair, and displays some of the most talented local, national and international artists.

The venue features “professional works of art ranging from limited editions to one-of-a-kind treasures in each of 12 media including sculpture, painting, ceramics, jewelry, mixed media, and more”, as the Uptown Art Fair website reads.  Over a combined 684 talented fine artists from around the world.   But there is more,  they also boast live entertainment including music, magic, wine tasting and interactive arts for the entire family.

Now, I know from experience that this is a wonderful event.  I haven’t missed it in 7 years and last year, toting around a large belly (as I was 8 1/2 months pregnant) wasn’t going to be my first.  This year I will be documenting my experience with photos and some artist interviews so check back next week for more on the Minneapolis Art Fair experience.  Hope to see you there.
