A {little} MINNECON History.

MINNECON is the brain child of Lisa Kirkbride, Ann Olberding & Eric Lovestrand. In 2007, they realized how few designers were actually going NeoCon (the national trade show for commercial and residential interior designers held in Chicago every June) due to the struggling economy.

Realizing the importance of getting the new product information to local designers the board of IIDA-Northland stepped up and created Minnecon.

It started out small at the Chamber’s Hotel with about 30 vendors and no CEU’s. This year the show has grown to 150 vendors and have added CEU’s. (Continuing Education Credits). Attendance is expected to be between 300-400 professionals at The Depot, a  downtown Minneapolis Historic Landmark.

The team has brought in some fabulous speakers for the CEU Sessions.

Keynote Speaker: Suzanne Tick

Instinct, Logic & Lunacy.

She will be sharing with us her personal experiences of design from idea to actualization.  She is most notable for her work with KnollTextiles and the creation of the bulk of their vertical fabrics.

Remember when Knoll Came out with Imago. Yes, that was Suzanne bringing us that wonderful new breed of interior finish. She and her life Partner have also worked in work in carpet. They created Tuva Looms which produces high quality, sophisticated, woven carpet for the design industry. They also worked in larger scale with Tandus Flooring creating a new thought pattern of design and vision for this company.

Her new adventure is Refuse DC. She is taking dry cleaning refuse, hangers, cardboard, paper, etc. and creating the most amazing wall hangings.
